Animals on the Brink of Extinction

Leatherback turtles

Leatherback turtles have survived for more than hundreds of millions of years, is now facing extinction. From the estimates indicate, for the past twenty years the number of species is declining rapidly, particularly in the Pacific region: only about 2,300 adult females left. This puts into the Pacific leatherback sea turtles are the most endangered population in the world. In the Pacific region, such as in Indonesia alone, the population is only a little left over from the previous (2983 nests in 1999 than 13000 nests in 1984). To overcome this, the three countries namely Indonesia, PNG and the Solomon Islands have agreed to protect the leatherback turtle habitat through the National Partnership Agreement Mou Tri.
